Gondia: Farmers in Gondia district are suffering from a drought crisis due to the devastation of Varunaraja. Even after a month and a half of lapse of rain, only nine percent of the district has receded due to lack of satisfactory arrival of rain. By now, it was supposed to be 5 percent seedlings. But now the drought is showing in the district due to the nature of the victim.
Gondia district has an area of two lakh five thousand 19 hectares for the Kharif crop. Out of this, there is an area of one lakh 19 thousand 3 hectares for paddy crop. Out of these, paddy was sown in an area of 6,919.9 ha. A paddy nursery was planted in 6,8.5 hectares of land. Out of these, the work of transplanting has been done on 6,8.09 hectares. In view of the situation of the entire district, only nine percent of the work was done by catching the plow and transplant. So far, 5 percent of the seedlings were wanted. But that didn’t happen.
From July 1, the plows have been dumped in the field due to continuous rains. If there is no rain in the next five to six days, the situation is going to get serious. Other measures need to be planned for this. The average rainfall is expected to rise by an average of 5.5 mm by July 1, compared to July every year. But so far only 0.59 mm, which means 6 percent rainfall, are clear signs of drought in the district. There is a demand from the government that the Gondia district should declare a 100 percent drought. But the farmer is in charge.
The problem of double sowing on farmers
Due to the late rains in the district and after the first rains the rains hit the farmers, the water planted by the farmers is on the way to scarcity. In the district, a sufficient quantity of paddy seeds of 3 thousand 5 quintals of short duration came from agricultural integrity vendors. Nine thousand 5 quintals of seeds are still available to the agricultural center operators. They should not send the seeds back to the companies. The agriculture department itself has admitted that there is a possibility of double sowing in the Gondia district. For this, the Agriculture Department has sent a letter to the District Manager Maharashtra State Seed Corporation (Mahabiz).
